Cottaging

Onions by AdaRobinson

We spent the past few days up at the cottage and unfortunately it rained the whole time.  I didn’t leave the cottage once while we were there because of the rain and the mosquitos.  I did, however, help to make dinner by cutting onions.  I wish I had prescription safety goggles for such occasions, but instead I just cry.

Box Cover

Elephant-Acrobats-by-Ada-Robinson

I have this huge ugly cardboard box sitting on my shelf in my studio and I can’t stand it.  But it’s the perfect size, so I don’t want to replace it.  So here is the cover that I made for it.

Housing Research Results

Ada-Robinson-Homework-Overload

I’ve been comparing the performance of schools around Yonge & Finch and have discovered that there are some REALLY poor performing schools.  We were so surprised that we started to look in other areas that have better schools around it.

After spending so long looking at school statistics I pulled out the pastels and drew this picture.  I’ve only used pastels a couple of times before so I’m pleased that this drawing isn’t hideous.  I thought that I hated pastels, but this was actually a fun experiment.

House hunting

Ada Robinson House-Hunting-02

This is a super exciting for me because we have started house hunting!!  We’re not in any rush to buy anything but we just went out with a real estate agent to take a look around and see what we can afford.  I’m so obsessed with houses at the moment that all I watch are house makeovers on the Home & Garden TV channel.

My husband is a computer genius

Ada-Robinson-Computer-man
I am so proud of Andrew because he’s so good at what he does, and he’s getting the recognition for it.  He’ll be starting his new job in a couple of weeks and I’m so excited for him, especially because it feels like his team is rolling out the red carpet.  Congrats Honey!!!

Paper art

 Bronwyn-Room-Tree-Materials

I walked along Queen St West with Briana and we saw a wall decoration that was so cute, Briana decided she would make one for her daughter’s bedroom.  The wall decoration was essentially a tree made from many different kinds of wallpaper: brown pattern for the trunk and differing colours and patterns for each leaf.  A little further down Queen St, we dived into the Japanese paper store and bought the above sheets of paper to make all the leaves.  It was a lot of fun helping her to pick and choose the paper.  She still has to buy the paper for the trunk before she can start, but I can’t wait to see how it will turn out!

This one’s for you!

Ada-Robinson-Space-Monkey

Alan has been asking me for a Spacemonkey for who knows how long. I never did it because I didn’t know what monkeys looked like. But thank God for Flickr.

Here it is Alan!

Bath time

Ada-Robinson-Bathtub-Boy

Have you ever tried to take a shower in one of those teeny tiny shower stalls that don’t leave you enough room to bend over to touch your toes?

Textured Sax

Saxophone

I’m really enjoying the music theme.  In this one I was trying to experiment with using textures to create the detail.  I like the general shapes, but I think it’s missing the finer shapes in the sax that would give it a more finished look.

FINALLY up and running

So I have been meaning to start up a blog for a long time and FINALLY I am starting it! Hopefully this will encourage me to create something every couple days. I'm experimenting with a variety of styles since I haven't yet found a style for myself - this daily exercise should help remedy that.

This watercolour study is my attempt at being more bold with the saturation since my stuff tends to be too soft & too light.
I'm fairly satisfied with it, but I wish I had used better paper so I could have worked it a little more.
